Minimal Setup
The minimum required markup to get CoreUpload running. Just add the tag helper with an upload URL.
What you should see: the smallest working setup — one tag, zero options. Select a file and it uploads to the built-in endpoint.

The tag helper renders the button, the drop zone, the queue and the progress UI, registers the client script, and wires it to the endpoints that MapCoreUploadEndpoints() already exposes. There is no JavaScript to write and no controller to add.
The defaults doing the work here
asp-auto-upload is true, so files transfer on selection. asp-drop-zone and asp-progress are also true, which is why a single tag still produces a drop target and a progress bar. asp-multiple is false — a multi-file uploader has to ask for it.
Leaving
asp-upload-url off is fine too: it defaults to the configured route prefix, and to /upload/multiple when asp-multiple is set.
